Dubstep in 2009 was alive n’ kickin’ and I don’t think it shows any signs of abating in 2010. Indeed, I think we’re going to see more and more evidence of its durability, flexibility, adaptability and longevity.
Here’s some great stuff leading the way:
NILOW & PANIKA who have been producing some amazing TRANSNATIONAL DUBSTEP & POPSTEP flava’s!!!!!
Panika is from Lodz, POLAND and Nilow is from Berlin, GERMANY!!!
Can’t tell you much about them but their mystery adds to their allure and there’s some other stuff that they’ve done which is outta of dis world but I can’t post that yet.
I’m still yet to be absolutely convinced by the UK FUNKY sound.
Saying that COOLY G was at the Generation Bass Festival last month and delivered what was one of my favourite sets of the Festival. I only managed to catch around 30 minutes as I wanted to catch part of Doma Tornados too.
I’m not convinced yet because, I certainly don’t like the American Soul vocal on some of UK Funky tracks I’ve heard for one. Secondly, man they’ve started playing this shit down at my gym and prior to switching to UK Funky, they were playing NICHE and so I guess that speaks volumes.
Now my gym ain’t no poseurs gym, it’s a propa hoodz-no fuckin’ posing-no women type of gym Mike Tyson always trains here when he is in the UK. Some of the regulars frequently feature on TV shows like “Britains Hardest”, hahahaha no bull. The others are the actual doormen at the nightspots in Brum! Plus it’s run by a couple of notoriously well-known gangsters who are actually quite nice guyz, to me anyway ahahahaha.
Saying that, don’t have any illusions that I’m some kind of bodybuilder or that I’m “hard” hahahaha…..I can just about manage a 20 minute run on the treadmill and some “light” weights and 30 minutes in the sauna (which is the real reason for going there in the first place). But I just like the no bullshit but friendly vybz, which suits me down to the ground even though the music sucks a lot of the time!
Anyway, so yeah anything they play at my gym psychologically puts me off too for some strange reason and they’ve started playing UK Funky as from about a month ago.
Saying all of that above, I love what Cooly G and Crazy Cousinz do and some other stuff but not yet enough to make me wanna play more than just a couple of numbers in my sets.
At this point I could not imagine doing a whole nights set of UK Funky tunes. Perhaps I need to give it more attention and dig deeper but man, it’s not GRABBING me or really exciting me? Maybe I’m missing something or have just started to develop poor taste!
However, I absolutely love what this guy from Poland, PHANTOM is doing. We featured one of his mixes, “Yeah it’s Nice” way back HERE.
These 2 numbers give me great hope that I might just really get into this stuff in a big way if there’s more of it like this. That CAMBODIA track is MEGA-MEGA-MEGA-FUCKIN’ BRILLIANT!

My boy, PETER POZOREK, is on a bit of a creative streak at the minute after a long and much missed absence. He has already banged out Thriller, The Groom, an amazing juke version of Motorhead’s “Ace of Spades”, which I have covered here over the past few weeks.
In addition he is working with yours truly on some remixes as THE JUKE BOYZ. We have just finished one for the SON OF A LEGEND, Vieux Farka Toure and a Kid Conga remix too, all coming soon.
Peter is now back with SUMMER SAMBA. Another gorgeous track. Really, I don’t need to say much more as his music and very high quality production does all the talking.
Check it out and as always spread the LOVE, share it far & wide, post it on your blog, stick it in your DJ sets and let me know about it too please.
PETER POZOREK does it again and for all you BALKAN fans, it’s another tremendous treat.
Man this guy’s PRODUCTION techniques are just awesome and I just think that this and the previous “Thriller” track ought to be and will end up as classics in the Nu-Balkan scene.
There’s so much trash flying around that scene at present, that it’s just wicked to hear something which pays tribute to it in an authentic manner yet marrying it to a fusion sound. This makes it accessible not only to Nu-Balkanites but also to the wider music loving public at large.
Every track Peter touches has an air of superior quality to it and this new one is no exception.
Sampling dialogue that sounds like it came straight outta BORAT, it starts with a woman complaining that her husband to-be married somebody else on “their” supposed wedding day.
That sets the scene for The Groom. You can just imagine and see him.
It then crosses over to Klezmer/Yiddish vibes fantastically leading up to an awesome breakdown and then it’s OPA!
It fades out with Pete’s kind of trademark percussive end in which you can imagine the newly married couple doing their traditional wedding dance to the rowdy and drunken wedding invitees!
Trust me a Balkan set and wedding would now never be complete without a Peter Pozorek track and man it’s here FREE!!!!
