Belgian Footwork producer Juke Ellington answered a few questions for Generation Bass. Read, listen, download&enjoy !
Q : How have you started producing Juke/Footwork ?
A : In fact in was in a hip hop band called La Cronik in my city (Mons, Belgium). Rapidly i met Dave Luxe in Brussels, he was producing ghetto dance and other ghetto stuff and through him and other members of La Cronik (Coma&Djub -, i got into Juke and Footwork. I got totally mad and addicted to it. From one thing to another i met a lot of Juke producers on the net, guys from Chicago then from other places around the world.

Q : What is Juke to you ?
A : It’s just wicked ! A blend of different music genres, it can either be totally industrial or something extremely melodious. There are no limits in Juke/Footwork, that’s what i love. Even with a bpm set around 160, there are ways to freak out without being repetitive. Juke is to me the electronic evolution of hip hop music.
Q : The way you work ?
A : I use Fruity Loops 10, different MPCs, different keyboards to produce my tracks. For Djaying i usually rely on CDJs, as it’s like really pleasant. I’ve not been into Djaying for a long time, i spend more time working on my tracks, so i’m still learning to use a Serato or a Traktor, but really producing is MY thing.
Q : Easy to get gigs ?
A : Honestly i thought i’d be more difficult, in fact, a few years ago it would actually have been really difficult, but now, there’s a rush on Ghetto music, like Ghetto Tech, Juke&Footwork thanks to artists from all over the world. The thing is getting bigger, and i get gigs every week. So i don’t complain, things work ok.
Q : Next projects ?
A : I have several EPs to prepare for different labels – some known, some less -, i work hard on remixes at the moment, i have collabs with lots of guys from my different teams (#TOMCREW, Hivemind, 710Records, 700Klub, Errance Records). Then, there’s Worldwide Juke, that really went well and which will be up again soon.
I also work a lot on Trap music with Paris Trillton :
Juke Ellington & Paris Trillton – Trvp Ish Whuut
I have a running project : World Wide Trap Compilation, with collabs from Dj Nappy&Richard Saunders. It’s a big project gathering Trap artists from everywhere, i can tell you it’s going to be loud and heavy !
Q : Tracks you recommend for peeps who don’t know a thing about Juke ?
A : First listen to my stuff (laughs). I produce different types of Juke/Footwork, but above all, guys should check on artists like :

Leatherface – Le Soir Dans les Parkings
